Two Weeks Warbling

This time of year, I’m in a bigger hurry than usual to get home after work, because this is the time of year that colorful birdies stop in my yard before continuing north.  Some birdies only stop for a few hours, others stick around for a few days.  And even though they eat food from my trees and feeders and drink my water, none of the warblers wait for me to get a photograph.  How rude.

This is a yellow warbler, whose friends are fellow yellow warblers.

Yellow warbler.

This is a yellow-rumped warbler.  In addition to yellow on its rump, it has yellow on its wings, too, but apparently birders liked its rump most of all.  Sickos.

Yellow-rumped warbler. You're looking at its rump, aren't you?

This is a palm warbler.  I just got a fleeting glance of a palm warbler this year, so this is last year’s photo.  I still don’t have any palm trees in my yard.

This is a black-throated warbler.  I’d not seen this bird before and would add it to my “life list” if I was organized enough to have one.

Black-throated blue warbler. Are you checking out its rump, too?

Now, in case you didn’t see the blue in the first photo of this black-throated blue warbler, here’s another shot.

A blue-r black-throated blue warbler.

I was also visited by a Nashville warbler.  If you look real closely, you can see it’s teeny, tiny little banjo.

I’m sure there have been other warblers in my yard, sneaking in to hang on my trees, eat sunflower seeds, and grab a drink of water.  Maybe when I’m retired I’ll get to see more of them.    Or become pals with one.  In the meantime, a fleeting shot of their spectacular color will just have to do.
